Avian Protection Plan Information
from U.S. Department of Defense
An Avian Protection Plan (APP) is a program developed to protect and conserve migratory birds by reducing the operational and avian risks that result from avian interactions with electric utility facilities. An APP should be specific to the utility or installation for which it is designed, targeting issues and providing solutions applicable to that particular utility or installation. An APP should place emphasis on preventing avian electrocution mortality through identifying areas of high raptor use and retrofitting unsafe utility structures that threaten raptors as well as other avian species.

Avian Protection Plan Petition
The tragic death by electrocution of Decorah eagle D12 on Sunday, July 1st was avoidable. The Raptor Resource Project was started to bring about awareness of our national bird, the eagle. The webcam placed on the nest in Decorah, Iowa has brought joy to millions across the world. We get to learn about the habits and behaviors of eagles. We get to see the parents getting the nest ready in anticipation for the laying of eggs. We get to see the hatching of the precious eaglets all the way through to their first flight away from the nest. This research is important to preserve the lives of all eagles. D12's tragic death was avoidable. We need the Avian Protection Plan put in place in 2005 to become mandatory in order to prevent another needless death of an eagle. D12 was a juvenile eagle only 3 1/2 months old. Please sign this petition and together we can send the message out about how important it is to save our national bird, the eagle!!
